President Dr. Dan Martin presented a special message for the evening, focusing on a renewed vision for the University. He asked attendees, “What are we giving our lives in service to each day?” Over the past two years, from conversations with faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and friends, Martin said he has distilled MVNU's overarching vision and the answer to this question to be “changing our world with the love of Christ.”

The far-reaching influence of faculty and staff was expressed as hundreds of alumni wrote in to tell how people had changed and touched their lives. “Knowing how our alumni engage the world, it’s not hard to picture a world in the future that knows and experiences more peace, justice, freedom, joy, self-respect, compassion, love, connectedness, love, laughter, learning, healing and reconciliation,” explained Martin. “Likewise, I can envision a world with less pain, suffering, hunger, sorrow, poverty, anger, hate, confusion, pollution and racism. We want to challenge everyone in the MVNU community to move from simply having a Christian worldview, to allowing Christ to work through us.” Dinner attendees were given pieces of slate—blank slates—representing previous faithful generations and the call for current faculty and staff to carry forward the University’s mission.

The banquet also included a Playdough sculpting competition in which faculty and staff members crafted a variety of expressions of the University mission: MVNU exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. New faculty and staff members were introduced and a special look was taken at Roberta Simmons 35 years of service.

MVNU is proud to continue carrying out its mission and vision with the help of enthusiastic faculty and staff members committed to creating a life-changing educational experience for traditional age students, adult learners and graduate students.
